#1 - The Book Series
I knew nothing of this novel going into it but the premise was intriguing; a novelist stealing the plot of another person's work? Can a plot be stolen? Throughout the book, I found myself sympathizing with both sides of this question. I enjoyed the interludes with pages from the "actual book" in question. I was proud of myself for figuring out the twist, though I certainly did not figure out the entire ending. This was dark and suspenseful and altogether more frightening because of the realistic nature of the story itself. There is a sequel, appropriately titled "The Sequel" and I will be sure to pick it up, though the first book ended without a cliffhanger.
Quotes:
- "I don't think I was young even when I actually was young."
- "After all, people who worked with writers were fully aware of the myriad and frequently bizarre ways in which a work of fiction can take root in an author's imagination. Fragments of overheard conversation. Repurposed bits of mythology. Craigslist confessions. Rumors at the high school reunion."
