This wasn't remotely on my list to read but it became a "skip the line" option on Libby and I snatched it up. I can't think of this book without hearing "I'm reading Eckhart Tolle; he makes a lot of sense. I bought a Buddhist bowl; he says it helps you be less tense" - the lyric from Tootsie, the Musical. I don't know if Tolle makes overall sense but there were definitely some nuggets that I could pick out. Others, not so much. This book is both enlightening and negative. Not that the two are diametrically opposed or anything, but they don't usually seem to go hand-in-hand. For 1990s enlightenment, it wasn't half bad. I don't know that it works for my mind but Tolle insists it can work for anyone. The idea of denying ego is an attractive one. Finding inner peace seems to be a desire for many. I certainly won't discredit his methods without trying them; still, I must admit, my ego is fighting hard to throw up a barrier of skepticism.
